Choose Hamdeok if you will not rent a car and want the lower-friction base. Choose Sehwa if your days are firmly focused on eastern Jeju and a smaller village atmosphere matters more than flexible transfers. The decision is about usable time, not which coast looks better.
Hamdeok keeps the logistics simpler
Hamdeok suits travelers who expect to mix the beach with Jeju City or airport-side time. Keep the hotel close to the stop you will actually use, not merely close to the water. A sea-facing address can still create an awkward luggage walk across busy pavement.

Sehwa rewards an east-first itinerary
Sehwa makes more sense when Gujwa, village walks and eastern landscapes anchor several days. It is a poor compromise if most plans point back west. The calmer scale is valuable only when it reduces daily backtracking rather than adding a transfer every morning.
Luggage changes the answer
For a bus-led trip, inspect the final walk from the stop to reception, including curbs, gradients and unpaved edges. Ask whether luggage can be held before check-in and after checkout. A taxi fallback also needs a realistic pickup point; a lane that feels charming on foot may be inconvenient with two cases.
Protect the room from coastal noise
In Hamdeok, ask whether the room faces the main road, dining activity or a quieter side. In Sehwa, do not assume a village room has strong insulation: confirm window type, blackout coverage and nearby shared spaces. A partial sea view can be better value when it buys a quieter orientation.

Check before booking
- Confirm the exact stop and final walking surface with luggage.
- Check the official route planner again for your travel date.
- Ask for room orientation, glazing and quiet hours.
- Verify late check-in and luggage storage in writing.
- Compare one-base travel time with a single planned taxi day.
