Choose Mullae when cafés, studios and a slower local evening matter more than rail convenience. Choose Yeongdeungpo when the trip includes regional trains, frequent cross-city movement or a heavy suitcase. They are close on a map, but they produce different hotel days.
Mullae is the calmer neighbourhood choice

Seoul’s city government describes Mullae Arts Village as a mix of working metal shops, studios, restaurants and cafés. That texture suits travellers who want one compact district to return to after sightseeing. A hotel near Mullae Station also keeps Line 2 within reach without making a major station the centre of the stay.
Yeongdeungpo works when movement comes first
Yeongdeungpo is the better fit if a Korail journey or repeated rail transfers shapes the itinerary. The useful question is not whether a hotel is “near Yeongdeungpo,” but which entrance and station side it faces. A short straight walk with lifts is more valuable than a smaller map distance broken by crossings or stairs.
Carry the luggage route into the decision
Mullae’s smaller streets reward light packing, but the final block can feel awkward with large cases. Around Yeongdeungpo, the station area is busier and blocks can be wide. Ask for the walking route from the exact arrival point, confirm lift access, and check whether early luggage storage is available before assuming either base is effortless.
Protect sleep from the street pattern

In Mullae, ask whether the room faces an active workshop lane or a late-closing dining alley. In Yeongdeungpo, request a room away from rail-facing façades, loading areas and main-road traffic. Higher floors may help, but glazing, corridor position and ventilation noise matter more than a skyline view.
